Our RID firmware also runs on the M5Stack Unit C6L, an off-the-shelf LoRa unit from the Meshtastic ecosystem. Flash it and it works over USB like our own receiver, in Eagle Eyes Pilot and Mirada. It ships running Meshtastic and you can flash it back any time.

How do I turn my drone controller into a Remote ID receiver and see nearby drones?

Install the free Eagle Eyes app on your DJI drone controller, then plug in a supported Remote ID receiver over USB or pair a DroneTag Rider over Bluetooth. Drones broadcasting Remote ID around you appear live on your map while you fly in DJI Pilot 2, DJI Fly, or Eagle Eyes Pilot mode. It needs Eagle Eyes app version 1.8 or later, free or paid.

Can I use my laptop or computer as a Remote ID receiver?

Yes. Plug a receiver into a laptop or desktop running Eagle Eyes Mirada on Windows or macOS, and nearby broadcasting drones appear on the map, for watching the airspace around a site. Mirada can also connect straight to the DroneTag API with free DroneTag credentials, with no receiver of your own required.

Can I use my phone or tablet as a Remote ID receiver?

Yes, if it is an Android device. The Eagle Eyes app that runs on DJI drone controllers also installs on Android phones and tablets. Run it in Companion Mode, connect a Remote ID receiver, and use it just as you would on a drone controller. On a computer, a receiver plugs into Eagle Eyes Mirada.

What is the cheapest Remote ID receiver? Is there a budget-friendly or affordable option?

The most affordable route we support is the M5Stack Unit C6L. You buy the unit yourself, purchase our Eagle Eyes RID receiver firmware for USD $40, one time, and install it on your hardware. The C6L detects Remote ID over WiFi but not DroneTag-style Bluetooth 5 beacons. We are expanding compatibility to several other common hardware devices in the Meshtastic ecosystem that the firmware can be installed onto. Our own budget-friendly Eagle Eyes RID receiver costs USD $89.99 plus shipping, ships ready to go with a USB-C cable included, and receives Remote ID over both WiFi and Bluetooth. Both cost far less than commercial drone detection systems.

What is the difference between a Remote ID receiver and a Remote ID broadcast module?

They are opposites. A broadcast module transmits. You attach one to a drone that has no built-in Remote ID, and it broadcasts that drone's identity and position, which is what the Remote ID regulations require. A receiver listens. It picks up those broadcasts so you can see the drones flying around you. This page is about receivers. The Eagle Eyes RID receiver hears both drones with Remote ID built in and drones fitted with broadcast modules, such as DroneTag transmitters.

Which Remote ID receivers work with Eagle Eyes?

The Eagle Eyes RID receiver, the DroneTag Rider, the DroneTag Scout, the DroneScout Bridge, and the M5Stack Unit C6L flashed with Eagle Eyes RID firmware. They connect to the Eagle Eyes app on a drone controller, to Eagle Eyes Mirada on a computer, or to both, depending on the receiver.

Does Remote ID in Eagle Eyes cost anything?

You pay once, for the receiver hardware, or for the Eagle Eyes RID receiver firmware at USD $40 if you bring your own hardware. Firmware updates are included as we develop the system out. The Remote ID side of Eagle Eyes is free. That covers seeing what your receiver hears and sharing those detections with other Eagle Eyes users on your operation, in Companion Mode or Piloting Mode, free tier or paid.
