Free local live streaming, and free live location tracking to CalTopo. Companion Mode in the Eagle Eyes app is now free for everyone. Livestream what your drone is seeing and share that stream with whoever needs it, as you fly. Your drone's live location and GPS track also go straight to your team's CalTopo map, and you can drop photo points into CalTopo while the drone is still in the air. All of it is now free. Two ways to fly
There are now two core ways to run the Eagle Eyes app on your drone controller.
Not to be confused with a dual controller setup. Both Companion Mode and Piloting Mode run on one controller. They are two different ways to use the Eagle Eyes app on it.
The way you are used to flying, with the Eagle Eyes Pilot app as your full piloting app. Custom autonomous missions, and the Eagle Eyes detector running live on your controller as you fly.
The Eagle Eyes app installed on your drone controller runs in the background, similar to apps like Airdata, and does not interfere while you fly in DJI Pilot 2 or DJI Fly.

Companion Mode is FREE FOR EVERYONE
Live drone tracking to CalTopo is not new, and until now we charged for it. Two things kept drones off the map: what it cost, and which drones we could support. Companion Mode answers both. It is free, and because it runs alongside DJI Pilot 2 and DJI Fly instead of replacing them, it works with a far wider range of drones than our full piloting app can fly. Setting up on a supported drone controller takes minutes, even in the field. Here is what Companion Mode lets you do:

See nearby broadcasting drones live on the map on your controller screen, alongside your own aircraft as you fly, and share those detections with other Eagle Eyes users
We want the core of Eagle Eyes in the hands of every team that needs it.
So bring in the rest of your team's fleet, and any other organizations working the same incident. With the Eagle Eyes app on each controller, in piloting or companion mode, every drone on the operation appears on one shared map in real time.
The picture is not limited to drones running Eagle Eyes. If anyone on the incident has an RID receiver connected to the Eagle Eyes app or to Mirada, nearby drones that are not running Eagle Eyes at all are picked up over Remote ID and added to the same shared airspace picture.
Anyone running Eagle Eyes Mirada sees every drone moving live alongside your CalTopo map objects, and can watch the live view from any drone that has chosen to live stream to them, so whoever is managing the air operations has the whole airspace picture. In the CalTopo app, the rest of the team also sees every drone's live location and track, plus the photo points pilots drop while still in the air.

If you already pay for Eagle Eyes, most of this release is for you. What went free was the entry point; what you pay for just got bigger. Full Piloting Mode still brings real-time detection as you fly and custom autonomous missions, and 1.8 adds missions on the DJI Mini series, terrain-following missions, High Res Detect and overlap photo interval capture. More big features are landing soon in both the Eagle Eyes app on your controller and Mirada on desktop and web, and a mobile app is on the way.

Running detection is paid, seeing detections is not. Watch a live stream from a paid Pilot user and it arrives with their detections included.

Streaming over the internet relies on infrastructure we build and maintain, and stand behind for both security and uptime. That costs real money to run, so we charge a modest price for it. It is what keeps the service dependable on the day it matters most.

Mini Missions
In addition to the Enterprise drones, we now enable autonomous custom flight missions for DJI Mini drones. You can fly the DJI Mini 3, Mini 3 Pro and Mini 4 Pro from Eagle Eyes Pilot.
DJI's own apps do not support autonomous flight missions for Mini drones. Eagle Eyes Pilot unlocks autonomous flight missions for Mini drones. See our compatibility page for supported drones and controllers.
Eagle Eyes Pilot Terrain Following Missions
Missions can now fly relative to the terrain below the aircraft, not just at a fixed altitude from the launch point. Set your mission's height above ground level, say 150 ft, and the aircraft holds it for the whole mission, up the slope, over the ridge, and onwards. Your ground sampling stays consistent from valley floor to ridgeline, and your mission never quietly runs out of clearance on rising ground.
There are two ways Eagle Eyes Pilot does this. AGL missions plan the heights before takeoff, from a terrain map of the mission area, so every waypoint is set to the right altitude in advance. Live Terrain Following holds the height during the flight, with the aircraft measuring the ground below through its own downward sensors. The difference is covered in detail in our FAQ.
AGL missions work with any aircraft Eagle Eyes Pilot flies in Piloting Mode (see the compatibility list); Live Terrain Following needs a Matrice 4 Series or Matrice 400.
High Res Detect
Capture a photo in Eagle Eyes Pilot while you're flying, and run the high res Eagle Eyes detector on the full resolution image your drone camera captured, not the compressed live feed your controller screen shows over the RC connection. Tap any of the up to 20 detections that come back to zoom straight in and investigate the full detail your camera is capable of, while the drone is still in the air.
Overlap Photo Interval Capture
Interval photo capture in DJI Pilot 2 is timed, so the camera fires every few seconds whether or not anything in view has changed. Eagle Eyes Pilot captures on overlap instead. It uses computer vision to track how much of the camera's view is new, and fires the next photo once enough of it has changed. You set that threshold as a percentage: at the 50% default, a photo fires when half the pixels in view are new.
You get consistent coverage of everything you looked at, without stacks of duplicates. If the drone hovers in place, it simply waits until it is looking at something new.
Capture on overlap, not on a timer
The diagram shows a straight-down nadir capture, but overlap capture works whichever way the camera is pointed: down, forward, off to the side, or anywhere in between. Moving the drone and panning the gimbal both count as change.

The Remote ID side of Eagle Eyes is free: seeing what your receiver hears, and passing it to the rest of your team so everyone flying shares the same picture. It needs Eagle Eyes app version 1.8 or later on your drone controller, free or paid, in Companion Mode or Piloting Mode, and it works in Mirada on your computer. The Mirada mobile app is coming soon.

Plenty more, too
- Photo resolution switching. Toggle between 4K (12 MP) and 8K (48 MP) in the camera settings in Eagle Eyes Pilot. Get the most out of the camera you are carrying, and decide how much detail the imagery you bring home is worth.
- Laser rangefinder to CalTopo. Your laser track can be added to CalTopo, so the map shows what the camera actually looked at on the ground, not just the line the drone flew.
- A lot of bug fixes. Significant work has gone into stability and fixes in Eagle Eyes Pilot this cycle.

We are getting close. The next release fixes a long list of issues, and it brings some significant new features with it.
